REVIEW: Maybelline Illegal Length Waterproof Mascara

Packaging

is a plastic, silver tube that's slightly curved. I noticed there is a rectangular versions from the photos I see online, maybe a US/ older version? Super lightweight, nothing to shout home about. In comparison to the Majolica Majorca Lash Expander and other Japanese mascara's I've used, this does feel/ look very cheap and flimsy in comparison. I have to say this mascara tube is the lightest I've ever owned, to the point where it feels empty.

Formula

is a dry, paste-life, fiber mascara. No particular smell that I can detect.

Brush

is a long and narrow bristle type brush. It makes it really easy to do your under lashes, and lashes in the corners. I find this very easy to use on my small eyes compared to the big "volume" brushes.

Performance

is actually really good. It holds the curl all day, it lengthens well and it does provide a little bit of volume. It comes off easily with oil makeup removers. Due to the very dry formula, the brush does come out loaded with very little product, and you do have to work at it a little bit to build up good length and volume.

The only downside for me is that it does smudge a tiny bit at the end of a long day. My eyelids are very fleshy, and tend to rub against each other everytime I blink, talk or smile, meaning that most budgeproof mascaras that don't move on everyone else tend to be defeated by all the rubbing of eyelashes against my lower eyelid. Overall this reminds me of a Western equivalent of the Kiss Me Heroine Make Long & Curl mascara.

REPURCHASE? Maybe. I am impressed by this mascara, and considering the price (Majolica Majorca is around £13-15) and how easy it is to get here, I would probably get this if I'm a bit tight in the wallet/ in desperate straits and can't wait for a new tube of MM to be shipped from Japan.

RECOMMEND? Yes. Holds the curl well, gives decent length. Easier on the wallet than department store mascaras. Bewarned though, that if you have fleshy eyelids like mine this might smudge a little on your under-eyelid. Also if you like your cosmetics in fancy, collectible "quality" packaging, this is not for you.
