Price: ~ £13 (from Ichibankao, including shipping)

I'm really picky about my mascara, and I have pretty stringent standards for mascara performance. Anything that doesn't quite cut it goes in the bin. My mascara needs to (by order of importance):
  • not smudge nor budge against my fleshy and oily lower AZN lids
  • stay up ALL day (and night)
  • not clump (I'm not a fan of the "voluminous" tarantula lashes)
  • give me length over volume

Formula

for KMHM Long and Curl mascara is quite dry. Some people may like it, but I'm not a fan. It feels like the tube is empty even after I just opened it. The up side is you don't have to scrape off your brush   because the brush doesn't come out over-gunked. The down side is I find I have to dip in a couple of times to get enough product out for satisfactory lash coating.

Brush is a on the smaller average size, a spiral affair. It's great for people like me who have pretty small eyes where a massive "volume" wand will just end up with mascara all over my face and poking me in the eye. (I'm looking at you, Exceptionnel de Chanel)

Performance

on the whole is pretty good. The mascara kept my lashes up all day, was really black, and didn't clump. It smudges only the tiniest bit towards the end of a long day. Like most Japanese mascaras I've tried, this mascara is pretty waterproof (defies your face getting wet). You'll need a proper oil-based cleanser to remove (ie: Shu Uemura cleansing oil, Lancome Bi-Facil etc).

Verdict

REPURCHASE? No. Not for any bad reasons. This is actually a pretty good mascara, way better than the horrible L'oreal, Maxfactor and Maybelline mascaras I've tried, and definitely better performance for value compared to the Chanel Exceptionnel. However, I'm just not the kind of girl who has a dozen different mascaras for "different looks". The few small niggles (dry formula and slight smudging) means this mascara still falls a bit short of unseating my HG mascara (Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus) from it's champion seat.

RECOMMEND? Yes. Especially if you have stubborn, straight and short Asian/ Chinese lashes, or want mascaras that don't smudge/budge.
